Description
Imagine Cartman, Stan and Kyle are your wingmen! Of course, Kenny makes a brief appearance too.
Escort the Cheesy Poofs with the South Park boys. A challenging and hectic fight.
Storyline:
The story just plain rocks. It tells a complete story, and it is very original. The briefings and debriefings are informative, interesting, and well thought out. No glaring spelling errors either, which is another big plus. Well, how many of you have seen a FS mission starring the South Park boys...with their voices from SP episodes?
Balance:
The balance is great...the ship choices are very logical (no bombers, as this is an escort mission), and so are the weapon choices. There has definitely been some tweaking here. The game on Medium difficulty does not pose a real huge challenge, however...mainly due to the successive fighter waves instead of careful over-lapping. The waves were in order, and the messages corresponding to them were real close to perfect.
Design:
AWESOME...I actually had to think this mission out, and write down when the other wings came in to beat this mission. Some wings come in unidentified however, as the author left it to the game to announce their entrance. Be listening for those familiar "New bandits have arrived." All the wings are named, but with the wrong names (ie: Vasudan names on Shivan ships)...though the wingmen could have the SP boys' names for descriptions. I was particularily impressed by the AI set by the author...the ships attacked the appropriate targets, and it made quite a challenge on the hardest difficulty.
Gameplay:
Non-stop action. Just the way I like it in a patrol mission. From the time the first wave jumps in, until the last wave is destroyed, you don't wait around for much time before the action starts again. The mission has two separate endings, which is quite surprising considering how early this mission was created from the time FS was released. This mission is quite memorable, I caught myself in FRED just playing the .WAV files included with the mission. I play it every once in a while just to get a good chuckle.
Other Thoughts:
This mission is easily one of the best of the earliest missions completed on the internet. It is of very good quality, and has very few errors. From Cartman saying "If you can't shoot anything, go back to Woodstock Hippie" when you can't hit anything...to Kyle yelling "They Killed Kenny" when Kenny's ship gets blown up...I was completely in awe by the quality.
