Description
The Zeeman Incident version 1.1.
Save Zeeman Station from a heavy Shivan attack.
**Not recommended for slower computers.
Storyline:
Presumably set during the Great War main campaign, Zeeman is concerned with the defense of the besieged Zeeman station from a heavy Shivan attack. This is reinforced by an already-damage station and good messaging, although the presence of the Lucifer is a tad superflouous. However, I must draw attention to the rather substandard briefing, which features grammatical errors and every icon being a "GTF Valkyrie".
Balance:
The balance in Zeeman is rather close to perfection, as the enemy came in waves set to be challanging - but not impossible. I found it to become much harder based on the skill level, as is appropriate, and the best praise I can bestow in this category is that I didn't notice the balancing act. However, the weapons loadout is rather annoying. While it is true to the established time period (the player is still on the Galatea), the lack of Ulysses or Prometheuses as options can be frustrating. Not to mention trying to crack open Nephilim wihout the benifit of Pheonix Vs or Banshees. Oh well - the selection is otherwise wide.
Design:
There are no design errors in Zeeman, and the waves of enemy craft are well-spaced. While the time between waves is sometimes a tad too long, it's better than having the waves artificially-seeming set to arrive when the previous wave is dead. The Lucifer - for once - is used the proper way, neither entering combat nor simply jumping out at mission's start. Don't you just hate that? It comes, deploys a lot of fighters, and leaves, accompanied by the requisite "Oh my god! It's the Lucifer! Why is it here?" message. A variety of threats are featured, including simple fighter waves, bombers (damn Unknown MegaBombs!) and even a kamikaze Cain - kudos for not giving into the crowd and going with the supertough Lilith. In short, it's damn cool.
Gameplay:
Fun, fun, fun, fun! As I hope I've made clear by now, Zeeman is a no-frills, well-done defend mission with a nice gameplay thing going for it. It's refreshing to play a good mission after so long... congrats, ArchLich. This is a total blast. And it's good for you, too!
Other Thoughts:
Finally! A defend mission in which the creator knows how to set up a Defend objective! This is a rare thing, boys and girls.
