Description
You've recently transfered to the 69th Wildcats and are ordered to destroy the Shivan Demon ship 'Derpreash', which has plauged the GTVA for weeks now.
Storyline:
There is nothing notable about this storyline, either good or bad. The Command briefing and mission briefing can be summed up by saying "There is a Shivan Demon Class destroyer that's been bothering us. Lets go blow it up." There are only three in-flight messages, so the storyline doesn't develop in the mission either.
Balance:
Surprisingly, in the face of a SD Demon, and many Shivan fighters, the GTVA can actually hold out. The GTVA capital ships arenÂ’t really at risk, since the Derpreash can only get them in itÂ’s small firing arc for a short time. The real objective in the mission is to cut a path for your bombers to deliver their Cyclops bombs into the hull of the enemy.
Design:
The design of the mission is pretty simple, and everything works okay. There are a minimal number of events, and only three in-flight messages. The mission seemed staged though. Ships warped in at what looked like a mechanical interval. It reminded me that I was just playing a game, and detracted from the fun.
Gameplay:
Frantic is a good word to describe "Window of Opportunity." You have only five minutes to destroy a Demon class destroyer. The real difficulty comes from figuring out what to do in the mission. The author never mentions at all that there will be GTVA bombers involved in the mission, and it took me a few tries to realize that I should devote my efforts to bomber protection. If the author had intentionally made that the focus of the mission, and provided informative in-flight messages about it, the mission would have been a lot more enjoyable.
Other Thoughts:
It's the small things that would help this mission out. In flight messages, and defining the goals to the player would improve the mission drastically. The storyline could use some improvement, such as explaining more about why the Derpreash is a threat, (and why the GTVA can only send a few fighters, bombers and cruisers to deal with it, etc.)
