Storyline:
This mission starts off promisingly with an excellent introduction, which includes voice acting, even for Vasudan pilots. Unfortunately it goes downhill from there. The messages trail off once the Fury arrives. The message text itself is actually full of little grammatical errors, as is the briefing. ThereÂ’s also only one debriefing stage, which only deals with success. At least all the ships and icons match up.
Balance:
YouÂ’ll have little trouble annihilating the Fury, a Lucifer class destroyer. Alpha wing flies Myrmidons with Helios bombs available. This naturally makes them excellent for taking out the FuryÂ’s main beam cannons. I was able to do both with a single bomb each. Apart from that little other opposition is particularly dangerous. I was able to do the mission without the corvette even arriving (which made the debriefing even stranger, naturally).
Design:
Design of the mission isnÂ’t too bad, actually. ItÂ’s probably the high point of the mission, as it includes send-message-list s-exps, changes in goals for the enemies and even a self-destruct order for the station. The background is also nice. On the downside, the directives have spelling errors in; despite the fact they work and the waypoints that are used are used to little useful effect.
Gameplay:
The mission isnÂ’t especially taxing if youÂ’re a pilot of average skill. The enemy fighter and bomber wings (of which there are very few) donÂ’t pose much of a threat and neither does the Fury. The start of the mission is good, and itÂ’s nice seeing the Lucifer blow up.
Other Thoughts:
This might make a good start to a campaign, and with some rebalancing it might be a tense and challenging mission. The potential is there.
