Description
This is the 3rd mission in a campaign I am doing. This mission, is an assault on a NTF prison labor asteroid. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks.

Storyline: 3.5 Stars
The storyline to this mission is a quite feasible pre-FS2 campaign mission in which you must liberate GTVA prisoners from an NTF labour camp. The briefing is nicely done, although icons and ships often donÂ’t match up and there are some spelling errors, in the briefing and during the mission dialogue. The messages in mission are good, with a bit of chatter included, although in my opinion thereÂ’s never enough chatter. The debriefing is fairly long and actually contains helpful hints about getting through the mission.

Balance: 3.5 Stars
I doubt that a player will find this mission too hard. At easy difficulty it can be completed fairly easily, with the disarming of the asteroid posing the greatest threat to your health. Thankfully thereÂ’s still quite a lot to do in this mission and the lulls are never way too long, though there is a small one while the GTT Cobra docks. Loadout has been well chosen with the multiplayer variants removed. Kudos to the author for not including the Kayser, which shouldn't be around at this time anyway.

Design: 4.0 Stars
Design of the mission isn’t that bad at all. There are waypoint paths and send-message-list s-exps included in the mission as well as delaying triggers for directives. The destruction of the asteroid is quite nicely handled, though the shockwave from the bomb looks very odd (this is a limitation of the FS2 engine though). I only have one problem with the asteroid – if you want to, or by accident you can blow the panels off the asteroid, which makes it half-invisible and shows the Iceni within. A couple of simple s-exps to repair panels when they fall below 20 or so would have helped.

Gameplay: 3.0 Stars
The mission is fairly good fun to play, with some nice and varied objectives. As I said before, it’s not all that difficult, so you can enjoy the fighting while not worrying about looming death. However, the mission commits the cardinal sin of Freespace missions – there’s no music to play along to. This just makes the lulling bits sound a whole lot longer and detracts from the battle experience. Also, when the NTF Hecate arrives, it doesn’t really threaten you. But you might not know it’s arrived, as there’s no arrival music duh.

Other Thoughts:
If the above bugs were fixed and the enemy ships were a little more threatening IÂ’d be inclined to score this higher.

Bottom Line: A fairly good capture mission that will entertain for a while. IÂ’d not say itÂ’s a long-term keeper though.
Highs: Good loadout choices, nice design, and a pretty nice story to back it up.
Lows: No music, asteroid explosion bug (see above), non-threatening enemies.
