It is a great replication of the battle of midway, but you can't really replicate that in freespace2. |

This is an EXCELLENT campaign. I really like World War 2. Your creative re-creation of the battle of Midway was very good.

I didnt actually get round to completing it because it was too hard and my bombers kept dying but overall a good 2 missions |

The experience moved from "highly irritating" to "tolerable", when I got used to it.
It's a 2 mission campaign - you shouldn't need to "get used to it".
Poorly designed - Escort list must me done manually (alt - e) , you need to personally arm 3 wings in the first mission, because the designer didn't touch the default configs of ships in the editor, but still given you just about every weapon there is available to put on those ships. The second mission is the same, but is a scramble mission, so you go with lasers and prometheus R wether you like it or not.
Plus, since the editor didn't edit ship properties too much - you can give orders to cruisers. In the first mission they're too far to change something, but in the second I actually used them to accomplish the objectives, which I dunno - could have been pretty rough without 8(!) cruisers helping me.
First mission also requires you to fly quite a lot just to get to the action - something I personally dislike, since it isn't necessary in freespace2, and until you get there, the midway can already be destroyed - it's all a matter of chance!
All at all, if you really enjoy just playing freespace2 you might have some fun with this one, but if you're looking for a well designed mission that's fun - look somewhere else. |
