Description
A group of renegade terrans have captured the Executor, the newest and most powerful of the GTA's Orion class battleships. They have also stolen the prototypes of the new LR-23 shock cannon and are trying to make them compatible with the Executor's turrets. If they suceed, then this ship will be unstoppable and will surely do tremendous damage to the GTA fleet. The prototypes are inside the Executor. The Executor must be destroyed so later on freighters can come and salvage the prototypes from the wreakage of the ship. This is where you come in.
Storyline:
A bunch of Terrans have stolen an Orion and are trying to put in Really Big Guns (tm). You should stop it, or the GTA may be signifigantly less alive. The briefing is rather well done. The only problem is that there's no explanation of why we will be able to equip our own ships with the LR-23s after destroying the Executor.
Balance:
This is by far the worst part of the whole mission. The Executor is guarded only by a pair of Leviathons, which aren't terribly skilled at catching a bunch of Ulysses fighters. There is a large number of ships and weapons available, but the enemy only managed to kill one of my wingmen. Around the time the Executor is down to 50 hull, a few Hercules arrive, but they are easily disposed of.
Design:
Other than the lack of help for the enemy, there are no real problems with Attack!. Unfortunitally, since there's little of anything here at all, so there's not a lot to mess up at.
Gameplay:
Not very fun, simply because there's nothing to really cause trouble for the player and his wings. It's simply an exersize in killing an Orion and a pair of Leviathons as quick as you can. In this, however, it's not too bad - imagine gathering your friends around your computer, challanging each other's best time for winning.
Other Thoughts:
If a few waves of enemy fighters were tossed in and the option to call in the Archons was removed, this would be much better. As usual, I eagerly await the next version of Attack!
