Description
Player must patrol Ryleh Station shortly after the announcement of the Terran-Vasudan alliance. The Hammer of Light vows to show their displeasure. Scan the convoys and defend the Station from all enemy fighters. Your fortune for the day: Find a big boom where you least expect it.
Storyline:
Its a basic storyline, designed simply for a single mission, or maybe a set of two or three (NOT a campaign of three!) Essentialy, you have to baby sit some Poseidens carrying valuble military supplies (Interceptors, Shield Prototypes, etc.) to an Arcadia that is a major Command Center for Terran/Vasudan alliance. The HOL wants to interfere. 'Nuff said.
Balance:
If you're good, you can beat it on Easy. If your great, you can beat it on Medium. If you kick rear, try it on hard. This is a good mission in that, when you escort the freighters, waves of three to six Anubi, and eventually some Seths come at you from behind. Usually, that would be a cake run. One catch. No shields. When we were mortal...
Design:
A fun mission. What you have to do, unlike the majority of missions, is try to destroy your enemies in dogfighting WITHOUT taking that light broadside from his buddy. You don't have shields, thus you cannot afford to take a few lasers en passen. If you keep that in mind, and hone your skills at dogfighting, the nice, orderly groups of enemies are bite-sized... not easy, but not THAT difficult as to make it more trouble than its worth. Unfortunately, the breifing isn't very good, though it is explanatory of what is needed, it isn't anything spectacular. Also, one of the objectives, "destroy or disarm the ____" (See for your self), if you destroy said objective, it is failed. Also, you dont REALLY have to patrol the Nav points.
Gameplay:
When we were mortal... ahh.... the days of Avengers being top-of-the-line, and shields being the amazing Shivan tool. It is a breath of fresh air in w orld stuffed with boring old "Dogfight wings X and Y, then kill Largeship Z". I found it, while on the difficult side, a wholly good play.
Other Thoughts:
Actually, your fortune should be "Find a boom in the most annoying spot at the most annoying time". You half expect it to be there, but its still a thorn up yer rear.
