Description
The GTD Heimdall has been located in Antares and its up to the GTD Bastion to take her out. For expert players. Requires Silent Threat addon.
Storyline:
A rather standard plot consisting of "We found a traitor, go kill it". Still, the briefing isn't half bad and the inclusion of the possibility of disabling and capturing the Heimdall makdes things a bit interesting.
Balance:
The full range of fighters, bombers, and weapons is available; squadrons can be optimized well. The player gets three wings equipped as he chooses in addition to a squadron of Hercules to defend the Bastion in-mission. But the enemy... well, the vast waves of Zeus, Apollo, Athena, and Loki (yes, that's Loki) fighters make the mission quite challenging. More than challenging - it's pretty damn hard. But in this day and age, when almost all FreeSpace players are blooded veterans and newbies rare as honest lawyers, a nice hard mission is just what we need.
Design:
From a purely technical point of view, Traitor's Justice isn't anything to jump up and yell about. There are some nice touches, like all craft exiting their destroyer's fighter bay (believe it or not, this is actually pretty rare), but nothing really spiffy. In fact, the mission overall isn't too original. There are no technical issues at all, the objectives are all working right for once, but nothing really new.
Gameplay:
But it's still rather fun, so who needs originality? While there's nothing really cool about Traitor's Justice, it's still a decent mission that strikes a very good balance between picking off bombs and bombers around your own destroyer and taking the fight to the enemy. Between that combination gameplay and the sheer number of fighters involved (though any PentiumII system should be fine), this is plenty of fun.
Other Thoughts:
Yes folks, I've finally gotten off my lazy ass, fixed my system, and reviewed something!
