Description
Another mission in the Orion V saga. A GTA rendezvous/supply point has been ambushed, and you have to cover for the evacuation of cargo and two capital ships from a barrage of Shivan attackers.
Storyline:
Strike One. No Command briefing (why do people insist on not having these?). The pilot briefing was confusing and with no story line at all. It states to take a flight of Valkyries, but these never show on the briefing screen. One screen with almost no information is all you get.
Balance:
This is a Red Alert mission so all you get is what the author gives you. Unlike most scramble missions, this missions balance is way to easy on the medium difficulty setting. Although your are assailed by multiple 4 ship Shivan wings of some of the fastest ships, they are made short work of by your wingman (8 of them).
Design:
Despite the very inadequate briefing the design and implementation of the mission is very refreshing from such a slow start. Although the action doesn't start for some time, it is interesting to watch the cargo ships pick up the cargo. There were no major design errors seen, although the rapidity of the messages makes is extremely hard to get a handle on what is happening, but to the authors credit he includes directives and damage monitors. This allows you to get an idea of what is going on if you miss some of the messages.
Gameplay:
This game is essentially fun, but play it on hard or insane if you can fly at all. Replayability is good, but would be much better if you could choose a slower ship other than the Valk.
Other Thoughts:
The mission is way to short, and over just as you are getting into it. The author includes a Jump Node, would have been nice to escort the Omegas to the node, instead of them warping out in the middle of space.
