Description
Single Player Version of Multiplayer Mission.
Added Features and fixes from the Multiplayer Version.
Storyline:
This mission's story takes place just before the signing of the T-V armistice. You must fly cover for a Fenris class ship until it reaches the Antares jump node.
<P>
The story is original, and, as far as I know, the first of its' kind. However, the command briefing is just a advertisment blurb and the mission breifing is a little confusing. Also, the two main ships have extremely unoriginal names (GTC Fenris and GTT Elysium).
Balance:
This missions balance is great. The loadout reflects the advances in technology at the time of the mission with only Apollos, Valks, Avengers, ML-16's, MX-50's, and Disruptors available. Although spread a little thin at first, the Shivan waves of fighters are more than a match for your wings and slowly eat away at your comrades if you are not quick.
Design:
This mission is a Multi->Single player conversion, but the author was wise enough to add things that are not in multiplayer, like directives. There are no glaring errors in the mission, but there are a few minor details, such as ships not using the Y-axis, the transport not undocking from the Fenris, and assigning orders to individual ships, not the wings themselves. A lot of these annoyances are typical of an author's first mission, as this one is.
Gameplay:
To put it simply, this mission is fun. Time and time again, I'd play through the mission and I knew I'd have to go as fast as possible from getting the Fenris out intact. Most good escort missions have the ship going out with a low hull rating and this is no exception. Although it is a DC Review policy not to review MP missions, I would recommend this for MP play any day.
Other Thoughts:
With the FreeSpace Frenzy just a week away, the MP version of this is worth a look.
