Description
A recived distress call from a battle damaged Aten has once again sent you into a potential death trap, yet this time something isnt right.
Storyline:
No command briefing was seen. Absolutely not time was taken on the pilot briefing as shown by the large amounts of misspellings. Even the mission title was misspelled. Story line is a typical rescue mission of a disabled Vasudan Cruiser. The loss debriefing is only 1 sentence, this could have been at least a little more descriptive, to the authors credit he does provide recommendations.
Balance:
Alpha wing consists of only 2 fighters along with 2 fighters in Beta wing. Ship selection is good. Weapons selection on the other hand is somewhat missile deficient if you wish to outfit all wing members with them. On medium skill level balance is ridiculous with your wingmen being nailed 15 seconds into the game as 3 Shivan wings of 4 each arrive. All of the Shivans are of a Colonel level of experience.
Design:
Only minor errors were found in the mission. A message stating the PVT Manga is down, when it shows on a damage monitor as being there. A chained event could have solved this problem easily. Directives don't even show up until later in the game. A look in FRED shows a Shivan Destroyer class ship that never showed up, or was there and you never see it.
Gameplay:
This mission is fine if played on Very Easy or Easy level. Don't expect to survive above this level unless you are a super ace. Wither it is fun or not depends on your taste in missions.
Other Thoughts:
There is not much else I can say about it, about the only thing I could suggest is the author include a small 2K 'beep' wave file to alert the player of incoming messages. This is useful in missions that have alot of message traffic as this one does
