Description
This mission details a little bit about the new shivan bomber, the Seraphim. In this mission, the 12th fleet Under command of the flagship Pegasus is under attack. You are to rescue it and any other craft. This is a difficult Scramble mission because you are very poorly armed.
Storyline:
There's really no story here. Just a fleet was attacked by Shivans and you've got to help them out. The briefing is lackluster with numerous spelling and grammer mistakes, but the Debriefing is nearly spotless and is actually done fairly well, thus saving the storyline from getting a .5 star rating.
Balance:
Since this is a scramble mission, you can't pick your loadouts. You get a Valkyrie with one Prometheus Cannon and a load of Hornets (maybe it's just my system, but when you dock with the support ship, you'll get an extra Prometheus). Needless to say, this error didn't hurt the review at all. What does hurt the balance is that there are way too many ships for the Terrans. While overwhelmed by the vast amount of Shivan fighters, the number of enemies in at a time is limited due to waves. The friendly ships can easily mop up the seemingly endless waves of Shivans. If you want to make it more fun, do what I did and send Epsilon home.
Design:
This the author's first mission effort and, while much better than most people's first missions, it doesn't really shine too much compared to today's newer designs. There's no really big errors in the mission, but there's nothing that the average mission builder couldn't do. The ships don't use the Y axis and 2 to 6 seconds isn't enough time between waves. Still, there are a few cool debris effects that create atmosphere for the game.
Gameplay:
Ok, it seems like I blasted the mission in the other categories, but it does a really good job in this one. If you send a few Terran wings back to base, it can be really challenging, attempting to bust the Seraphims before they get to the Orion. But, after the third time playing it, it gets kind of old.
Other Thoughts:
Nope.
