Description
Just play it and try to have fun.
Storyline:
What story line? If there's a story behind this mission, I must've missed it in between all the friendly Demon (That's right, I said friendly), Typhon, and Orion destroyers.
<p>
The briefing is just plain pitiful. This is basically all you get to explain what's going on (And I quote): "I will make this short do all of your do your objectives, try and figure out what your supposed to do." Then you get to see two more stages totally cluttered with icons of capital ships, fighters, and bombers - That's all.
Balance:
What balance? Weapon load outs are cryptic and don't make any sense. Some weapons - like flails, MX-50's, furies, and disruptor missiles - aren't allowed for some unknown reason. Ship selection is just as bad, limiting you to: the Medusa, Ursa, Seth, and Amun. Why the Seth is a valid selection in there and not the Athena, no one will ever know.
<p>
In this mission you'll deal with a whole lot of Basilisk heavy fighters and Nephilim bombers. The big problem is that the Basilisks are ordered to go after Alpha wing above all else, which means that you won't get to do a whole lot because you'll have an enemy wing ALWAYS throwing Phoenix V missiles at you - And trust me, Phoenix V's HURT. Worse, after some of the friendly capital ships are cleared out, a miniature fleet of enemy bombers will come after you, again, loaded to the teeth with Phoenix V missiles. The bottom line is that you aren't going to last too long if you don't use your counter measures wisely, since you won't get a long enough break to use the support craft.
Design:
What design? There are three events in the mission, but that's as fancy as it gets with this one, folks. When you start the mission the top of your screen will be flooded with question marks. Why? Sorry, my Magic 8 Ball broke trying to figure this one out.
<p>
You'll find three capital ships for each side: A Demon, a Typhon, and an Orion. You may be asking, "BOTH sides have one of each?" The answer is yes. You'll be fighting next to a friendly Demon class destroyer, and going up against a hostile Orion. The story line doesn't explain anything as to why this happens. As far as I can tell, it's just an overlooked error that produces some of poor framerates at times for slower computers.
<p>
Another flaw is the naming of ships and wings. All of the capital ships sport their default names like Orion 2 or Demon 35. The wing names aren't capitalized and don't use the correct terminology for the corresponding races (Unless 'Unknown' is correct, since it's even used for the one jump node in the mission).
<p>
To top it all off, wings are jammed right next to each other. As the player you do get the honor of starting off somewhere in the middle of nowhere, but every other ship in the mission can expect some wrecked paint jobs.
Gameplay:
No game play here. You'll get the chance to squeeze off a few bombs into the enemy Typhon, but after that you'll be pestered by a cloud of Phoenix V missiles that will easily make quick work of you. Wow, what a mission, I go in, fire a few Harbingers and die, wheeee!
Other Thoughts:
Why is there a jump node 80 some kilometers from the combat area?
