Description
Take out the captured Arcadia before the HOL can produce more cruisers!
Storyline:
What is it with the HOL and capturing Arcadia installations? Come to think of it, where the hell is the HOL getting all of its craft? It seems to have several hundred shipyards, because the armada featured on either side of Battler Royal could crush any seen in the main campaign. The briefing simply shows some heavily overlapped icons and says, "our forces", and "there forces" (not my typo). You have to kill the Impka, but how in the world did the HOL get it in the first place?
Balance:
There is very little choice in the weapon and ship selection - only Ulysses and Hercules are options. What, you prefer Hornets? Sorry, no insectile arms available. Strange, in a mission where a bomber would be highly useful. It wouldn't make that much difference, though... the enemy is simply insufficient to survive the waves of your own fighers. No, that's not true; they're just insufficient to do anything to stop your own craft from crushing all of the cap ships and the Impka in short order.
Design:
This is a textbook example of Battle Of Endor Syndrome. There are massive numbers of capital ships on each side, but the player can do little to influence events. The numbers of enormous craft are enough to slow even my Voodoo2 to a crawl. The player can give orders to friendly craft, but the end result is always victory, and there are some... interesting effects in Battler Royal. Namely, Faust Science Vessels gliding into combat. I think that little design decision speaks for itself. There are absolutely NO messages, and even the friendly craft are set up to come in as waves, ensuring that the number of fighters will always be too high for comfort.
Gameplay:
You can't shoot straight with a framerate of about 5 FPS, so until a few of the high-polygon capital ships can be cleared up, the only thing you can do is dodge enemy fire. Then, you can try to influence events, but with only 3 types of enemy fighters ever seen - Anubi, briefly, and way too many Horuses and Amuns. It's just frustrating and not worth the downloading.
Other Thoughts:
No further evidence, your honor.
