Description
A comm relay is en route to Downunder Station. Until the relay arrives, we are cut off from the rest of the fleet. The comm relay will be most vulnerable on its final approach to the Hawking system jump node. Make sure it arrives safely.
Storyline:
The story is really good and original. Downunder Station E-SRS Comm Relay is down and the station is sending for a replacement to contact the rest of the fleet. It's thrown in with some warning about Cain-class cruisers with Ship Killer weapons. This comes into play when you have to engage a Cain Class Ship during your escort. I won't get into it anymore detailed than this. You'll just have to see the mission. :)
Balance:
Although it is pretty easy going in the first few minutes, the mission gets somewhat difficult rather quickly. Only a pilot quick on their feet will be able to knock down the bombers before they toast the E-SRS (A Faustus class ship). My only complaint about the balance: There's not enough Hornets to go around to replace more than one of the default Ulysses with a Valkyrie. This doesn't really matter much as Alpha 2 doesn't stick around long enough to make any difference.
Design:
For once, there's no glaring design errors in this mission. (Which is an exception from the norm) The Y axis is used a lot in the mission, but there are a few design mistakes. For example, the mission's only jump node is labled "Jump Node 0". Another error in the debriefing claims that the Fenris cruiser that escorts the E-SRS was destroyed when it was not. This could be easily fixed by using a not-destroyed-delay sexp instead of a has-departed delay sexp.
Gameplay:
This mission really isn't as fun as some of the other missions for one big reason, NO MUSIC! The author neglected to set any music at all for this mission. Just adding that in a new version would improve this score a lot.
