Description
Working on a 30 mission branched story campaign that takes place after the main game has ended. it's essentially the erradication of the Hammer Of Light Resistance movementÂ

Storyline: 1.0 Stars
Attack and destroy a HOL Supply Dept and HOL Cruiser. Simple and clean, right? Until you realize that this mission is the second in a series chronicling the destruction of the Hammer of Light in Vasuda Prime. Only one question: why would the HOL place its primary supply depot less than 2500 meters from the nearest Jump Node, especially when the other end of the Jump Node connects to the Terran-controlled system Beta Aquilae? I know the Hammer of Light are supposed to be fanatics, not geniuses, but give me a break! Like hanging a sign on the Jump Node: "Invaders Welcome Here!"
The mission briefing is also poorly done, with all the icons bunching up in the lower left corner or mostly off-screen.

Balance: 0.5 Stars
Plenty of ships and ammunition to choose from in this mission. Not that any of the planning will help, due to poor ship positioning. Alpha finds itself greatly outnumbered at the start of the mission and will die before any other Terran wings arrive. The Vasudan gun emplacements don't even have weapons, probably because this mission is so impossible at the start.

Design: 1.0 Stars
Ship placement in this mission takes the art of faulty design to almost a new extreme. Alpha begins this mission 1600 meters away from the furthest hostile ship in the mission. The nearest ship is a mere 910 meters away. Expect your HUD to light up like a christmas tree, notifying you that you are finally in the mission and, yes, you ARE going to die from a massive missile Alpha Strike (pun very much intended).
The mission briefing promises that Alpha and Beta will arrive together, followed by Gamma. However, Alpha finds itself all alone against the massive Hammer of Light force. Beta and Gamma arrive 60 seconds later, well after Alpha has been reduced to their component particles.

Gameplay: 0.5 Stars
Not much game in this mission. Try to evade missiles, turn to evade bandit on your six. Try to evade next salvo of missiles, lose shields. Turn to run away, get tagged. Die in exploding inferno. Sound fun? Maybe to a masochist, but not to me.

Other Thoughts:
A very poor follow up to Hammer of Light 1 - Escort. Even looking at the mission design in FRED shows that there isn't any mission except the two initial waves, which are planned to overwhelm Alpha. This mission showcases its biggest flaw!

Bottom Line: Poor ship placement can ruin missions, just like this one did.
Highs: Pretty explosions...but, hey, that was ME exploding!
Lows: 30-second mission time maximum due to extremely poor ship placement and Alpha being impossibly outnumbered at the start.
