Description
In This mission you will Fly a shivan Scorpion and attack the terran ship the Hoden and it`s escorts the Iodas and Talon. you will also get shivan weapons.
Storyline:
The basic idea is an excellent one - be a Shivan! The mission, while a standalone, is set up as a Red Alert, preventing the awkwardness of GTA logos all over the place. Inside the mission, however, the sham is made clear, since the wingmen and command images are of Terrans, and they speak in perfect Standard English. And the lack of a debriefing makes it all worse.
Balance:
Balance? Don't make me laugh! There is no ship selection, and the player is jammed into a Scorpion. That's good, since the strangely shaped craft can keep a Valkyrie in its sights. But the weapons are a pair of Shivan Mega Lasers. Well aside from the fact that their names don't fit onto the screen, they're supposed to be capital ship weapons. They fire amazingly slowly, and do only minor shield damage. If you can puncture the shields, they pack a fantastic antiarmor punch, but with a rate of fire that makes the Banshee look fast... The single missile slot is filled by an MX-50 with only 10 shots. As if that wasn't enough, there is no rearm! Bur for all that, the mission is one of the easiest ever. All your wingmen are in Dragons, and the ship that must be killed - the Hoden - is quickly killed off. Why? Stay tuned to the next section...
Design:
First of all, there are the aforementioned problems with the images and WAVs for the wingmen. Then there's the minor issue with the weapons given. Then there's the biggie problems... the player starts out facing - and only about 300 meters from - the Hoden. In a few minutes, Command announces the imminent arrival of the Eva... which warps in pretty much on top of the Hoden, crushes it, survies the explosion, and then leaves. After this interstellar hit-and-run, the player's forces must only polish off the remaining escorts so that the primary objective is complete. That's all, folks. No effort required. Did I mention that the player is given weapons designed for large ships for killing large ships?
Gameplay:
The gameplay doesn't really exist. The draw of flying a Scorp is neutralized once you see the weapons mix and discover that the Scorp is basically a Valkyrie with a different shape. Ugh. The Eva kills the Hoden without having to fire a shot, and the player's forces can deal with the cruisers needed to make the Primary objective succeed easily.
Other Thoughts:
It's hard enough casting the player as a Vasudan. Shivans don't work.
