Description
The idea is to protect a Ship yard called New Jack City (Never Just Come) during the comissioning of GDT Glorious by Admiral Greer

Storyline: 2.0 Stars
The storyline in NJC is not too bad; the creator's description says the important part - except that the escort of the Admiral is a relatively small part of the mission. And why is the Admiral arriving in a Hermes escape pod? The briefing is pretty bad, with a "Jump Point 0", and plenty of overlapping - not to mention that throughout the mission, friendly shipping and enemy Shivans arrive through the same jump node. Erm, wouldn't they hit each other on the other side of that node? There's no explanation for the vast hordes of Shivans, however, in the nonexistant debriefing.

Balance: 4.0 Stars
There is a wide selection of ships and weapons - anything you want, in fact. The in-game balance is nothing to write home about, but it's effective, and surprising considering the number of cap ships.

Design: 1.5 Stars
To be perfectly honest, there are some major design issues with NJC. In rising order of importance: The messages are often in such quick succession that listening to the (very quiet) sounds is really a requierment. The admiral's pod will sometimes just flip around and head towards the node it came from.... right when the first enemy waves are coming through. Suicide in action. If the Admiral is NOT kept alive, only the first, easily crushed waves will be destroyed, as the majority of the Shivan Armada (and this IS an armada) is triggered by the completion of the Protect the Admiral objective. Lastly, the last two objectives, to defend the Glorious and the NJC shipyards, are actually set to be successful if they ARE destroyed, instead of becoming successful if they are NOT destroyed and all enemies are disposed of, as they should be.

It should be noted that there are so many fighters, 4 cruiser-sized ships, and over 15 cruisers on the playing field. Not at one time, of course, but any computer without a high-end 3D card, say, Voodoo2/G200/RivaTNT, will likely crash, and all but a rig with the latest Intel silicon will feel the pain of NJC. Still, it does NOT degenerate into Endor Syndrome! There are actually vast enough amounts of friendly fighters that the player CAN have an effect on the mission. In fact, without keeping watch over one's wingmen, and delegating them properly, defeat becomes immenent.

Gameplay: 5.0 Stars
However, despite all the [major] design issues, I find myself replaying NJC over and over and over. Why? Because it is the one mission I've found that manages not to crash, even with all these massive numbers of ships. Yes, lesser comps will tremble, but for anyone with NJC's level of Video Card power, I heartily reccommend it. The numbers of fighters end up made me feel like I was fighting a massive space battle, my brave forces crushing the enemy like flies, but more and more and more waves of Basilisks soar in, and the Liliths die, and yet keep coming... There are, in fact, so many fighters, that NJC avoids one of the key things that defines Endor Syndrome: it keeps the reins in the player's hands. In fact, the bigger picture must be maintained at all times. What do I charge my hordes at next? Shall I strike down one of the Demons, or get the Lilliths, which fall more easily? But then will I have enough time to stop the dual Demons? Besides the tactical - no, strategic - elements forced upon oneself, having so many fighters for so long is just damn fun! True, it's annoying having to jump out with 2 Primary objectives not completed, but this is simply a great thrill.

Other Thoughts:
Anyone with a Voodoo2 level 3D card should get this. All mortals should treat it like the Plauge with some AIDS tacked on for good measure.

Bottom Line: Endor, but not Endor Syndrome. This is what many people have invisioned for a FS mission, executed quite well... that is, save some bad design bugs and some slowdown even on a Titan PC.
Highs: You're in the biggest FS battle EVER. Nothing even comes CLOSE. We're talking 15+ cruisers, 2 Demons, an Orion, an Arcadia, and enough fighters to block out the sun. And that's literal.
Lows: Some pretty big design problems, only the mightiest of gaming rigs will be able to play through the half hour needed to finish NJC.
