Description
Protect a stricken Vasudan cruiser in an asteroid field until an evacuation ship can pluck the crew to safety.
Storyline:
Wow, what a storyline this mission has. The briefing is a full three stages long and gives almost no information about the mission. There are spelling and grammatical errors and some of the icons donÂ’t even have names. At least they all match up with the ships they show. The debriefing is two lines long. In the mission there are very few messages. They too, have grammatical errors. I suppose itÂ’s better than having no messages at all.
Balance:
If you canÂ’t complete this mission you shouldnÂ’t be playing FreeSpace 2. You might want to consider something less taxingÂ
like sleeping. The four Manticores that make up to whole enemy force arenÂ’t hard to destroy. Neither are the numerous rocks, especially considering you have a choice of any weapon (and their multiplayer equivalents).
Design:
Design in this mission isnÂ’t nearly as bad as the rest of it. Most of the directives work, with the exception of the return to base directive. Goals are validated and waypoints are used. On the negative side, the enemies donÂ’t even arrive in wings and some of the s-exps are useless.
Gameplay:
If your idea of fun is shooting rocks, then this mission is for you. If you like your missions challenging, with a plot and good balance and lasting more than three and a half minutes, go download something else. Knock yourself out. ItÂ’s probably more funÂ
Other Thoughts:
If the corvette had more health and the Shivans posed a genuine threat, this might be a nice little mission.
